UHF/VHF Line-of-Sight Calculator

This tool can help find locations allowing for line-of-sight communications such as UHF (70 centimeter) and VHF (2 meter) amateur radio, where line of sight, particularly obstructions, matters more than atmospheric propagation.

Start by entering an address or coordinates for each of the two locations, then drag the markers into position for more details.

Of course, the results here are only an estimate based on terrain. Real-world factors such as buildings and other obstacles may affect communication.

  • You should get back a latitude and longitude string e.g., '44.9491733350656,-122.9332083463669'. Paste that into the transmitting or receiving box below, but be sure to leave off the quote marks.
